The Sunny is one of the fastest IKs available. It's length and hull design contribute to an above average speed for an IK. Another advantage is that the seat can be configured so a solo paddler can sit in the middle for more efficient paddling. The included tracking fin can be used on flatwater to further enhance the Sunny's tracking and speed, and positioned on either side, again for single or double use.

I took it out as a solo IK on my first test. I was not going to go kayaking that day due to the high winds, but as I started back home I changed my mind and went to a different lake. The sunny has two inflatable seats that appear to provide better back support than the thwart design of the Safari. This IK is a little longer than most IK's, but like most Innova's, it isn't too wide. I felt like the Sunny was quite stable, yet paddled easily through the water. In high winds, I was able to paddle quite easily into the wind. When I headed back, I just dropped a paddle in the water to rudder. It would have been nice to have the Helios's rudder in this wind, but the tracking fin did provide some assistance on tracking through the water.

The Sunny is more comfortable and faster to paddle than the Helios 380EX in a solo configuration. My GPS registered around 4mph. In a recent trip I was able to get 'sprint' at 6+mph, but the average speed is still between 3 and 4mph. Thisis a great IK for lake paddling or easy rivers. As a double, the front paddler might be slightly cramped if they have long legs. As a solo boat, there is plenty of room fore and aft for storage. This would be an excellent craft for a downstream camping adventure, or for paddlers with longer legs looking for a solo IK. The Innova Sunny comes with a 70liter drybag/packback, which unlike most IK's is actually useful for kayak storage or gear storage during a trip. I love the Innova drybag and use it for keeping camping gear and other essentials safe on my travels.
It's also a great kayak to use with kids. I recently took the Sunny out in 'solo' configuration. My 2 year old took the bow, in front of my footrest, and my 4 year old sat behind me, propped up against the drybag. Both seemed happy as can be! I did notice my speed was affected by an extra 70-80 pounds of weight!
